During Learning At Work Week in May, and through this partnership, the Professional Practice Team has been assisting Yr Athrofa students seeking to claim experiential learning credits to cover three modules totalling 60 credits, enhancing their educational journey and professional development.

The National MA in Education programme offers students a comprehensive exploration of evidence-informed practice, pedagogy, and collaborative professional practice, preparing them to excel in diverse educational settings. As part of the programme, students engage with modules designed to deepen their understanding and enhance their effectiveness as educational practitioners.

Alison Evans said:

“As the Programme Director for the National Masters course in Yr Athrofa at UWTSD, I welcome the strong partnership we have created with colleagues in the Professional Practice team.  This allows serving teachers who do not currently hold level 7 credits to reflect on their practice and evidence how their skills and experiences match the learning outcomes of the Masters modules.

“Students report that undertaking the master’s course has challenged their assumptions, allowed them to network with other teachers across Wales, exposed them to different theories and provided opportunities to critically try different things in their own classrooms.

Sarah Loxdale, Senior Lecturer within UWTSD’s Professional Practice Framework team, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating:

“Our partnership with Yr Athrofa represents a shared commitment to providing students with meaningful opportunities for experiential learning and professional growth. Through the integration of practical experiences and academic reflection, students gain a deeper understanding of educational practices and contribute to positive change within educational settings.”

Lowri Harris, Senior Lecturer within UWTSD’s PPF, highlighted the value of experiential learning in enhancing students’ educational experiences, stating:

“The opportunity for students to claim experiential learning credits aligns with the ethos of the Professional Practice Framework, which seeks to recognise and validate the significance of practical experiences in shaping professional development.”

As UWTSD continues to develop collaborations that enrich educational experiences and empower students to excel, the partnership between the Professional Practice Framework and Yr Athrofa stands as a testament to the university’s commitment to educational excellence and innovation.
